Wearable Dexterity

lv_0_20260422175855.gif

We co-designed a three-finger 8DOF robotic dexterous hand and together with its isomorphic exoskeleton, people can wear this exoskeleton to control the dex-hand easily and naturally, or use it as a single data collecting device.

We started this project three months earlier, when Dex-UMI ( CoRL 2025 best paper finalist ) was published, yet aiming at the future-work direction mentioned in Dex-UMI.

Fast Prototyping

We 3D-print a so-called toy model to test if this version's design meets the requirement—executing our defined set of 10 in-hand dexterous manipulation tasks.

Its moving parts are pin-connected ; assembling each new toy model is like snapping together a Lego brick 🤣

Vision-Based Tactile Sensor (VBTS) module

lv_0_20260423173946.gif

We designed and built a low-cost VBTS module, with a BOM cost of only ~200 RMB. It is highly modular and easy to integrate into a gripper, requiring only a single USB 2.0 cable for power and data streaming—plug-and-play.

In just 3 months part-time, we finished this project and integrated this module onto DISCOVER Robotics' two-finger gripper, already delivered 20 units in small batch, and generated 200,000 RMB in revenue for the company.
